Tiger Toilet prototype ready for installation

Dear colleague,

Saturday 19 December is World Toilet Day. As Sanitation Ventures prepares to install the first prototype Tiger Toilet for testing, the day is a powerful reminder of the fact that more people worldwide have mobile phones than a decent toilet. This sanitation gap is hugely damaging to people´s health and ability to make a living. That´s why we´re developing solutions that will help give everyone access to good sanitation.

Work on the Tiger Toilet - our lead innovation - is moving fast. Below you can find out more on the latest developments in design and technology, and the initial reactions from consumers. Please tell us your thoughts - we´d welcome your ideas and feedback to help us change lives in poor communities worldwide as soon as possible.

Best wishes for World Toilet Day,

The Sanitation Ventures team

Creating the Tiger Toilet

We want to make sure we design a toilet that meets people´s needs. So our design approach is rooted firmly in what we´ve learned about consumers´ key concerns. Read about our design for a prototype toilet that can meet even the challenging conditions in unplanned urban areas of developing countries.

Learning how worms work

The success of the Tiger Toilet will lie in the effective performance of the Tiger worms in the system. We know they´re robust and can withstand a wide range of conditions but what factors will enable them to work the hardest in the model we´re designing? Find out more about our Tiger worm experiments to discover the conditions they need to work best in the Tiger Toilets.

Introducing Tiger Toilets to consumers

To make sure we design sanitation solutions people want and will use, we´re testing our innovations with consumers at every stage. We recently introduced the Tiger Toilet concept to people in the test market of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania´s main city. Learn how people felt about worm-based technology and Tiger Toilet construction, emptying and affordability.
