TOTO CST743S-01 Drake Toilet Review

Kids and Their Toilets!

If (like me) you have kids, you will know what I’m talking about when they reach a certain age, and all of a sudden the toilet is one of the most fascinating things they’ve ever come across. I have yet to understand why this happens, and if anyone can tell me please let me know!

I have two kids and I love them dearly, however, I became so fed-up with having to reach for the plunger every few days because the toilet was either clogged with paper, or we had suffered another overflow because something that really shouldn’t be flushed away was (or wasn’t as the case may be). I decided to take some of my own advice (I sell bathrooms), and get a new toilet or two that would prevent this from happening.

The TOTO CST743S 01 Drake

If you’ve had a look around my website, you will notice I have reviewed a good many toilets. However, I thought it only fair to let you know that I personally opted to have the TOTO CST743S-01 Drake Toilet installed in my home.

And here’s why.

The Flush

Aside from the fact this toilet only uses 1.6 gallons of water each time it’s flushed, it uses a siphon jet flushing action called G-Max. This means the clean water is quickly and powerfully dispersed whilst at the same-time it efficiently gets rid of your waste (or the odd small teddy bear or two). In fact, considering how much water it does use, you can flush away up to 900 grams of solid waste without an issue.

TOTO has also used a 3 inch flush valve instead of the conventional 2 inch which makes it 150% larger than many other models on the market. The trapway is also larger than most which helps to eliminate clogging.

Now, for me the whole point of getting a new toilet was so the adults in my home could put the plunger away somewhere never to be seen again. For my wife there were other considerations, namely looks.

The Drake 01 is available in 5 different colors: bone, colonial and cotton white, Sedona beige and if you’re bathroom décor warrants it, ebony. The overall look is one of gentle curves which look clean and contemporary.

Easy to Clean

This is yet another point that was important for my wife, and this toilet hasn’t let her down. TOTO has managed to combine looks without compromising on how easy it is to clean. Although a two piece, this toilet has a fully glazed trapway which means it’s harder for solids to stick to it leaving stains behind.

Thankfully, so far the toilet brush has not had to be used as much as it once was in our home, and when it is, the larger water surface makes it easy to do.

One Little Consideration

The Drake 01 doesn’t come ready equipped with a seat, but that made things kind of easier for our household as we had to think about little behinds being able to safely sit on the toilet.

And to be honest, if we had just a little more space, I would have opted for the TOTO CST744S-01 (see here at Amazon). It’s the same model as the CST743S-01 but with an elongated bowl, which I personally find more comfortable than a round shape.

I can’t fault this toilet. The plunger stays where it should be (under the sink) and we haven’t had any problems with clogging. The only thing I have to work out now is if all those little “trinkets” that keep going missing have ended up in the sewage system!

You don’t have to take my word for it. Amazon not only have some great deals on price, you’ll also find more glowing reviews just like mine.
